What Managers Can Do To Reduce Stress At Work
(My Personal Story)
Ever since i’ve embarked on a corporate journey with my dearest co-founders, having staffs in the company is one of my daily routines that i have to face - regardless if the sun is shining or if it is raining.
I realized that it is crucially important to reduce the stress levels at work by being positive role models especially in times of crises. When your managers are calm, your staffs remains calm.
There are four key points of organizational changes that managers can do:
1. Improve Communication
- Openly share information with staffs to reduce uncertainty in the workplace when it comes to their jobs.
- Clearly define staff’s roles and responsibilities in the company.
- Make communication friendly and efficient, and not mean-spirited or petty.
2. Consult Staffs
- Allow staffs to participate in decision making pertaining to you their jobs.
- Consult staffs about their work schedule and work rules.
- Ensure that workload is suitable to staffs’ abilities and resources, and avoid unrealistic deadlines.
- Show that individual workers are valued.
3. Offer Rewards and Incentives
- Praise good work performance verbally and institutionally.
- Provide opportunities for career development.
- Promote an “entrepreneurial” work climate that gives staffs more control over their work.
4. Cultivate a Friendly Social Environment
- Provide a place for social interaction among staffs.
- Establish zero-tolerance policy for harassment.
- Make management actions consistent with organizational values.
On a personal note, should you feel that the managers have not treated you well or have treated you unjustly, please raise your concerns and feedback on ways we can improve our situation for the betterment as a whole.
At same time, should i have not lead the team well, i seek you forgiveness and please look out for my blind-spots as well as my weaknesses in order for me to grow and rectify my current being.
With all these, i would like to also thank Marie who has been dedicating so much time for the company and putting her utmost best in everything she does.
JD, thank you for your consistent feedback on how we could improve the system and your admirable high performing standards that is a model to everyone in the company.
Thank you Hana, for being very professional in what you do and for being diligent to serve to the best interest of the company.
Thank you San, for providing your best work for the company as well as your enduring passion to design.
Thank you Carla, for withstanding the pressures at work and thank you for keeping up with the accelerated pace in the company.
To Hafiz, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for staying with the company during the ups and downs - burning your weekends and cracking your brain to resolve company’s issues.
To Mustafa, thank you to you too for your great inspiration and courage to venture into new fields and not forgetting that you’ve always showed us to Walk-the-Talk, everyitme.

eusof.
